The Connection Between Faith and Physical Health
Caring for Your Body as an Act of Worship
What if caring for your body could actually draw you closer to God?
As Christian women, we often separate our spiritual life from our physical health. We study Scripture, serve others, and nurture our families — but when it comes to our nutrition, movement, and body image, many of us unknowingly follow the world’s standards instead of God’s design.
I grew up as a pastor’s daughter and granddaughter. Faith was woven into every part of my life… except one: my health. I learned how to study the Bible, how to serve, and even how to sing hymns (though trust me, you don’t want me leading worship!). But no one ever connected how eating well and caring for my body could be an act of worship.
As I grew older, culture’s messages about health and beauty started to take root. I believed being “healthy” meant being smaller, more disciplined, and more in control. My worth became tangled in calories, clothing sizes, and numbers on a scale. I was still reading my Bible — but my thoughts were more about my reflection in the mirror than my reflection of Christ.
Eventually, I realized something powerful: God never called me to be smaller — He called me to live for Him.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 says, “Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit… you were bought at a price. Therefore, glorify God with your body.” Our bodies are temples — sacred spaces where His Spirit dwells. What we eat, how we move, and how we think about our bodies all matter because they reflect how we honor Him.
When we choose to fuel our bodies with nourishing foods, to move with joy instead of guilt, and to rest when needed, we’re practicing biblical stewardship — not vanity. Caring for your body God’s way means using it as a vessel to serve, love, and fulfill the purpose He’s called you to.
Here’s how to start:
Pray: Invite God into your health journey. Ask Him how you can honor Him with your body today.
Practice: Take one small step — drink more water, add a veggie to your meal, or take a 10-minute walk.
Process: Journal what He’s teaching you about your body, your mindset, and His truth.
Friend, you were created with intention. Your body is a temple. Caring for it isn’t about striving for perfection — it’s about worshiping your Creator. When you begin to care for your body as worship, everything changes — not because of what you lose, but because of what you gain: peace, purpose, and partnership with God.
